Meet the International Film Festivals’ Professionals in PYIFF 2019

三大电影节负责人齐聚2019平遥国际电影展

The artistic director of the Berlin Film Festival Carlo Chatrian, Head of Cannes Film Festival’s Film Office Christian Jeune and director of Venice Days Giorgio Gosetti will attend the 3rd Pingyao International Film Festival, engaging with Chinese young filmmakers and audiences. Professionals of other international film festivals will also gather in Pingyao, such as Shozo Ichiyama, the program director of FILMeX in Japan, eyeing for outstanding Chinese films.

In celebration of the occasion, PYIFF will host a series of theme parties such as “Meet the Film Festival”, to encourage interactions between the festival professionals and Chinese filmmakers. It not only creates opportunities for face-to-face communication with the top festival programmers, but also provides platforms for domestic works to be seen by the world. The festival professionals will also participate in a number of forums and dialogues during PYIFF for the discussion on the development trend of the works by international young filmmakers.

Carlo Chatrian, the incoming artistic director of the Berlin Film Festival, is among the stellar lineup. Before taking up the new post, he has served as artistic director of the Locarno Film Festival since 2013. Christian Jeune, on the other hand, has been working with Cannes International Film Festival for over 30 years, as core member of the Film Department. And Giorgio Gosetti is the director of Venice Days, the independent sidebar that runs parallel to the Venice Film Festival, which aims to spotlight ground-breaking and original film works.

Since establishment, PYIFF has been dedicated to discovering new films and helping young filmmakers grow. In addition to the official sections “Crouching Tigers” and “Hidden Dragons” for international and domestic new talents, “Work-in-Progress Lab Screenings” and “Pingyao Project Promotion” further set its eyes on promising projects in development, providing film financing platform for Chinese language productions and the incubation opportunities for the burgeoning filmmakers and projects. Films participating in various sections all have the chances to win awards and receive cash prizes.

The 3rd Pingyao International Film Festival will be held from October 10th to 19th at Pingyao Festival Palace in Pingyao Ancient City, Jinzhong, Shanxi. Submission is still open for the official sections and the development projects.
