The Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival (PYIFF) announces that the Britain’s National Film and Television School (NFTS) will join “Pingyao Corner” this year, becoming the first international school to join this section.
As a sidebar section of PYIFF, “Pingyao Corner” is presented in the form of “School Day”. Schools from China and abroad attend Pingyao Corner with their students of film-related majors. Students will share their own works, followed by a round-table discussion about their experiences and ideas. With the participation of NFTS, there will be a “NFTS Day” at the 3rd PYIFF. This is the very first time for “Pingyao Corner” to welcome an international film school. It is intended to broaden young filmmakers’ horizon and create more space for communication and exchanges, allowing the industry to understand the young filmmakers of tomorrow.
NFTS is internationally recognized as a model of excellence in higher education for film and the moving image. The Hollywood Reporter (THR), the leading magazine for the film industry named NFTS No. 1 in its list of the top 15 international film schools in 2014. The Guardian newspaper also described it as the World’s Best Film School. The School was recently awarded both the 2018 British Film Academy Award (BAFTAs) for Outstanding Contribution to British Cinema and the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education. It has developed some of the world’s top creative talents, acclaiming 11 Oscars and 138 BAFTA awards. Graduates include Oscar-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins (Blade Runner 2049), Oscar-winning animator Nick Park and others. Other award-winning films and TV series participated by NFTS graduates include Gravity, 007: Skyfall, Harry Potter film series, House of Cards and etc.

As a sidebar section, along with the official screenings, the academics section and the industry section, “Pingyao Corner” has been dedicated to becoming a dynamic platform for film students and young filmmakers from the very beginning. The festival tries to give an innovative attempt on the education front. Since the last edition of the festival, Pingyao Corner has welcomed schools such as Beijing Film Academy, Central Academy of Drama, Communication University of China, Shanghai Vancouver Film School, Shanxi University, Communication University of Shanxi and Taiyuan Normal University to have their own school days. The young film students were highly engaged, actively exchanging ideas and sharing experiences, making connections with each other across the country.
The 3rd Pingyao International Film Festival will be held in Pingyao Ancient City, Shanxi Province in China, between Oct.10-19th,2019. Domestic schools, other than the Britain’s National Film and Television School will showcase themselves in the section of “Pingyao Corner”.
